Ecstasy - Adam - XTC - Hug - Beans - Love Drug
MDMA (or N-Methyl-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine) has a
lot of very cool, very hip names, but anyone who uses it refuses to call
it for what it really is... an extraordinarily dangerous and illegal
drug.
Ecstasy is a synthetic, psychoactive drug similar
chemically to
methamphetamine and mescaline. Ecstasy was not a controlled
substance until 1985, but today it is the hottest "Club Drug". |
Speed kills...
Crystal meth is designed to give you a rush (speed)
and to "crank" up your feelings and make you come to life. It will
certainly do all this, but it carries a heavy downside in that it is extremely
addictive - and can actually kill the user. When this methamphetamine wears off, it
causes acute withdrawal that is more intense than cocaine. Addiction
recovery to crystal meth is possible, but like any drug or substance addiction,
nothing works until the user is ready to admit they have a problem and is
willing to undergo treatment.
Drug Rehab San Diego
Prepare yourself - protect your children
Make sure your children have appropriate information about meth,
alcohol and other harmful and illegal drugs. This site was designed to
give you a starting point to research the data and arm yourself with the facts
you need to talk with your kids. Too many parents wait until their
children are in trouble with drugs before coaching their kids about drugs.
More often than not - by then it could be too late!
Start a dialog with your children before a problem can
develop. Due to the glamorization of drugs from the media, pop music
and their peers, children as young as early grade-schoolers will have some
knowledge of the illegal or "recreational" drug scene. Statistics prove
that kids as young as 12 experiment with illegal drugs. That is why it is
so vitally important that you begin to talk to your children at an early age.
They need to know, and be reminded of your position on drugs and that it is
wrong and will not be tolerated.
If a problem occurs and becomes too difficult for you to manage,
get professional help. More often than not, experienced counselors who
work with substance abuse issues can help restore communication between you and
your child. Go here to read about
rehab and recovery treatment facilities and programs for substance addictions.
Drug epidemic
According to the
Naional Institute on
Drug Abuse (in 2003) an estimated 470,000 people in the U.S. age 12 and
older used MDMA in just the past 30 days. In addition, ecstasy tablets are
appallingly impure, often containing other harmful chemicals.
Problems similar to cocaine
Parents,
the Anti-Drug website states that many problems users
encounter with MDMA are similar to those found with the use of amphetamines and
cocaine. MDMA is also related in structure and effects to methamphetamine,
which has been shown to cause degeneration of neurons containing the
neurotransmitter dopamine. Damage to dopamine containing neurons is the
underlying cause of the motor disturbances seen in Parkinson's disease.
